Primary Function of PESCO

Taxes Applies on PESCO Electricity Bill

The Pesco bill commonly includes various taxes.

Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA)

FPA, which stands for Fuel Price Adjustment, pertains to the fuel pricing associated with rental power companies that generate electricity using sources like crude oil. This is a charge imposed by NEPRA to balance out the variations in fuel prices. To compensate for their losses, Pesco includes an average amount in your bill. If there are fluctuations in fuel prices, you’ll notice changes in the FPA amount on your MEPCO bill.

F.C surcharge

The term F.C. surcharge on your electricity bill represents Financing Cost Surcharge. The rate for this surcharge is 43 Paisa per unit. You can calculate your F.C. surcharge by multiplying the total units consumed by 0.43. For example, if you’ve used 202 units, your F.C. surcharge would be 202 * 0.43, which equals 86.86.

TV Fee

In the Pesco Bill, there’s an additional fixed charge of Rs. 35 included to generate funds for Pakistan Television (PTV)

Quarterly Tariff Adjustment

The Quarterly Tariff Adjustment is implemented four times a year, every three months.

General Sales Tax (GST)

The term ‘GST’ on electricity bills stands for General Sales Tax. These bills include a 17% GST charge on the electricity cost.

TR Surcharge

The TR Surcharge, which stands for Tariff Rationalization Surcharge, is a charge regulated by NEPRA. When there’s a positive difference in tariff between NEPRA and the GOP (Government of Pakistan), it is payable by the GOP as a Subsidy. Conversely, if the difference is negative, the distribution company will pay the GOP as an ‘Inter DISCO Tariff Rationalization Surcharge.

Insights of PESCO Bill

For the sake of knowledge, I have shared some insights into the Pesco bill.

PM Relief

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government extended relief measures to Pesco and other electric supply companies. For domestic consumers utilizing less than 300 units, they have the option to either pay their bills or defer payment. If they choose not to pay immediately, the outstanding amount will be divided into installments and added to subsequent bills without incurring any additional charges. Furthermore, as part of the PM Relief package, commercial consumers have also received subsidies on their electricity bills.

Deferred Bill

When your Pesco electricity bill displays ‘Bill Deferred,’ it signifies that you have the option to either pay the full bill amount promptly or delay payment. If you choose to defer the bill, the current bill amount will be divided into installments and added to your upcoming bills, with no additional late payment surcharge applied.

CR Bill Amount

CR, which stands for Credit Bill Amount, represents the surplus balance that may appear on your bill if you’ve paid more than the actual bill amount in your previous billing cycle. This credited amount will be subtracted from your forthcoming bill(s), effectively serving as an advance payment. For instance, if your CR is -1000, and your next bill amount totals 4000, the 1000 credit will be deducted from the 4000, resulting in a final payment of only 3000.
